Elderwood Apothecary was created to connect my work as a Clinical Herbalist and a Death Midwife. The berries and flowers of this tree have known healing medicinal uses. The elder tree itself has been known in many cultural and mythological traditions as a gateway to the afterlife and was often used to honor the deceased by placing branches on their graves. The symbolic nature of this tree also crosses over to represent renewal and rebirth. The representation of the cyclical and healing nature of the human life and the lives of all creatures is why I chose the Elder tree to represent the work I do in this life.
Leading with heart & Being a good human.
Welcome, my name is Jane Anderson and I make my home in Colorado, where I try to spend as much time as I can outdoors. As a Death Midwife, I have a deep dedication to holistic end-of-life care which is broadened through my work as a Clinical Herbalist, believing that the gifts of the earth can help support our return back to the earth.
Through my decades long relationship with plant healing, I have created a line of essential oil blends that help support one’s passage across the threshold, as well as the family's journey alongside them. My deep commitment to sustainability is expressed through advocating for natural funeral options that honor both the deceased and the environment. My work emphasizes compassionate support for families during their most challenging times, ensuring that each time together is personalized and meaningful.
My multifaceted approach to care, combines traditional practices with natural solutions, which underscores my commitment to fostering a healthier, more compassionate community. The skills I bring to my work with each family are holistic end-of-life care management, funeral home planning and facilitation, home funeral support, advance care planning, grief tending, and ritual. And through all this is the steady current of leading with my heart in each moment of each day and walking in the path of being a good human.
